As for me for years of experience participating on national and international seo contest traffic is not very important because it cannot help much to gain rankings but traffic is the best way to gain more money via blogging. But contest is really bit different because backlinks is most important.
Getting tons of backlinks is the best way to win the competition. Also building your own strategies is the best.
